Five Effective Business Analysis Techniques

June 3rd, 2010 by Adriana Noton

The term business analysis refers to the discipline of identifying needs within a business, and determining the appropriate solution.

These solutions may include changes in the organization itself, strategic development or development of new policies. The person who takes on the responsibility of business analysis is called a business analyst.

When the time inevitably comes for some sort of change, the business analyst has several techniques at his disposal. Precisely which techniques are used will depend on the nature of the problem, and the scope of the solution. Here are five that are used successfully by business analysts to help solve an array of different problems.

MOST

The MOST technique is an internal analysis. It contains four attributes that are defined by the business analyst to ensure the project you are working on is aligned and on track. These attributes are as follows:

Mission (where the business intends to go) Objectives (the key goals that will help achieve mission) Strategies (the different options for moving forward) Tactics (how the different strategies are put into action)

PESTLE

The PESTLE technique is an external analysis designed to examine the many different external elements affecting a business and its operations. It includes six attributes:

Political (Current and future political influences) Economic (The local, national and world economy impact) Sociological (Different ways society can affect an organization) Technological (The effect of new and emerging technology) Legal (The effect of national and world legislation) Environmental (Local, national and world environmental issues)

CATWOE CATWOE is a technique used to encourage critical thinking about what the business is trying to achieve. There are six different elements included in this technique: Customers (who benefits from the highest level business process and how does the issue affect them?) Actors (who is involved in the situation? Who is implementing solutions? What will impact their success?) Transformation Process (what processes or systems are affected by the issue?) World View (what is the big picture and what are the wider impacts of the issue?) Owner (who owns the process or situation being investigated and what is their role in the solution?) Environmental Constraints (what are the limitations that will impact the solution and its success?)

SWOT

A SWOT analysis is used to give a more complete overview of both internal and external factors affecting a business. There are four attributes to SWOT:

Strengths (examine advantages and what is done well within the company) Weaknesses (examine the disadvantages and areas that need improvement) Opportunities (examine opportunities for improvement in all areas, including market share) Threats (examine the obstacles the business faces in accomplishing their goals)

FIVE WHY’S

The Five Why’s technique is used to help get to the root of any given problem within the business intelligence. It is a question asking method to examine the cause and effect of a particular situation.

You will start with a problem, such as “my car won’t start,” then ask a succession of why questions until the root of the problem is uncovered and a solution is evident.

Business Analysis can be a complex and intricate process. Within this broad spectrum lie several sub-disciplines, roles and even more techniques.

All businesses encounter situations and problems that need attention to help keep them moving forward. With a skilled business analyst employing the right techniques, a solution won’t be far behind.

First Party Collections Information Important To Your Business’ Cash Flow

March 1st, 2010 by David P. Montana

The term first party collections refers to any collections that are performed by the company to whom the debt is owed. You may not have realized it, but any time you call a client and ask them to pay up on a bill or send a reminder notice, you’re doing first party collections. Some large companies go as far as to open their own collection agency as a subsidiary to handle this.

The name “first party collections” means that the entity collecting (or an affiliate was a party to the original transaction. The debtor is referred to as “second party,” and “third party” means another entity that gets involved in the attempts at collection, like a debt collection agency.

First party collections activity has some unique advantages. For one thing, there is no lag in time between an account becoming delinquent and the beginning of the collections process. Also, you have knowledge of your customers’ needs and practices, making it easy to maintain a positive relationship even after debt is incurred, which helps down the road if you want to keep the customer as a client.

Often the debtor will be more inclined to try to please their original creditor, especially if you have a product or service that he or she needs in order to maintain their business. Sometimes a gentle reminder that you won’t ship any more items until their past due amount is cleared up is enough to get recalcitrant debtors to pay.

Another difference is that unlike third party agencies, first party collections do not fall under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. When you are the original party or a legal affiliate of it like a subsidiary, you are considered a lender rather than a collector. Third party agencies therefore do not have as much wiggle room in their practices as first party collections entities due, but the latter are still subject to state and federal law.

Once a bill gets past due beyond 2-3 months, though, it’s usually time to turn it over to a third party agency or sell the debt. The ability to collect on past due amounts drops steeply after this time statistically, so rather than continuing collections actions in vain, you’re better off handing them over to professionals with more resources.

The most successful first party collections are done by dedicated collections professionals. Salespeople, accounting staff and business owners just aren’t as capable at collections because their attentions are scattered and collections is one of the least pleasant tasks they have to do.

Instead, if you’re insistent on first party collections, hire someone whose sole job is to do that, or if you’re large enough to support it, consider having a collections department or subsidiary. Dedicated collections professionals will know the best collection techniques, including how to find deadbeats, negotiating settlements or payment plans, and even disguising collections activity as audits. First party collections can be effective if you structure it the way a third party agency would.

Tips On How A Penny Stock Listing Make You Rich

September 17th, 2009 by Malcolm Torren

You must have read from stock market websites and blogs how you can get rich from your small cap investments. And almost everyone wants to earn a good sum of money in their bank account. But getting rich is not a quick scheme and no get-rich-quick books will tell you that it happens overnight. It does not happen overnight. Even if you think you have the most reliable penny stock listing in the world, it still does not guarantee financial wealth.

Luck doesn’t have anything to do with getting rich. It’s all hard work. There are even people who life a low profile lifestyle but have fat bank accounts. Then there those who claim that they got rich because they have a dependable penny stock listing and they want you to try it.

Don’t get fooled by this hype. Today there are so many opportunists who would do anything to get a piece of your savings. The penny stock market is one of the attractive avenues for them. If you want to get rich from your penny shares, follow these tips:

- Avoid overspending. Always keep in mind that the general rule of thumb is always to buy shares at low price. When the value appreciates and when the time is right, sell it. But do not use up too much of your savings. Just allocate portion of it. A safe margin would ten percent. And spend only for the list that you personally picked and not from those who suggested it to you.

- Learn and master the basic language, the slangs and the major concepts of the trade. Any penny stock listing is useless if you don’t know how to translate them. And to do that, you have to understand the back and front ends. Along that path you will be encountering so many stock market terms that may be alien to you. Terms like the PE ratio, ticker signs, liquidity, etc. Understand them and learn them by heart.

- Commit your investment money reasonably. Your stock list is supposed to showcase the hot stocks to bid. However, the list can change overnight. What is hot today may not be hot tomorrow and that happens all the time. Always double check on which penny stock you think is most likely to expect profit for you.

- Read more and study the trends. Your penny stock listing cannot exist alone. It needs partners. Because in this business, the survivors are not the rich, the smart, and the strong. The successful investors are those who keep track of constant changes. These are the stock market trends.

In reality, what makes you rich is not because you have a penny stock listing that guarantees success. What success means is dependent on how much work you are willing to put in your business. The ingredients to success are knowledge, rational analysis, and a roster of facts. If you want to be rich is really all up to you.

Get the best penny stock listing to help you in penny stock pick. Read more.
