Think Outside The Box; Uncommon Opportunities

September 3rd, 2010 by Rob M

Before the recession I spent 11 years in the residential homebuilding industry. I say this so that you understand I was doing the same thing for a long time. In the BCR time (Before Current Recession), this was a good thing. Time in an industry was synonomus with experience. Experience gave a person a wealth of knowledge to draw from.Knowledge prepared that individual to adapt in times of change or crisis.

Here’s the catch;

Those skills of adaptation, that knowledge, the experience that took years to accumulate became worthless overnight. What good is experience, when the industry that you worked in ceased to exist? What good is knowledge when the framework that it is based on has been torn asunder? Even worse, the skills and experience of the past become a plasticized skin, a mold that rigidly wants to maintain its shape. In short, the past makes you resistant to change.

But somewhere within that mold lies our greatest strength. Adaptation. There is within each of us the ability to change. We cannot forget the past, but we can let it go. We can take our experience and our knowledge and use tem to shape our future.

The next question is what do we do now? Initially I tried to stay within construction, but I realized that it was necessary to look farther afield. In my searches I have found a few opportunities but every now and again, something comes up taht makes me take notice.

Whenever I can find good work that does not force me to spend thousands of dollars in materials or training and allows me to use skills that are common to us all, I will share them with you. I am looking for myself and I will include you in my quest.

Look at This! This article, Think Outside The Box; Uncommon Opportunities is available for free reprint.

What To Look For In Homes For Sale

August 5th, 2010 by Taslima Grishma

Suppose that you are looking for homes for sale and find an internet listing of a home in a good neighborhood. However, when you look at the photos of home for sales and all you see are photos of a toilet that has the lid up, a kitchen with dirty dishes, furniture that is stacked in rooms, and congested living spaces. So unless you have a great imagination you probably don’t want this home.

For every good home for sale, the seller should think like a home buyer to be successful. Therefore, if you want to sell your home and decide to market it on the Internet or place an advertisement in the local paper’s real estate section, you need to remember that no one will want to buy a home if they can’t picture themselves living in it. To advertise in the print media, you should follow the rule of seeing is believing. The photos you take should be the best parts of your home and you should ensure that the rooms are cozy looking, uncluttered, and neat. Don’t take photos of small rooms that won’t photograph well. Unless the furniture is going with the home, don’t take any photos of the furniture. In addition, don’t take any photos of the toilet.

You also need to create an identity for your home by describing a central point such as an heirloom object that lends a grand and warm character to homes for sale. These types of descriptions lend freshness to the more general and broader picture. Don’t forget Remember that potential buyers probably don’t have a lot of patience and will begin to skip over tiresome and pieces of writing.

After you give the homes for sale an identity, you next need to step is to make up a title for the homes for sale as if it were a film or a book. Remember to mention if you are selling by owner in the title. First time home buyers frequently look for homes that are for sale by owner first since they are usually intimidated by real estate agents. Also make sure that you make the price clear and price your home properly.

The best place your advertisement is on the Internet, unless your local paper has a real good website. Aside from placing your advertisement in the local newspaper real estate section the best places to post your advertisement is on free websites such as HomesbyLender.com, Backpage.com, and like Craigslist.com.

Blue Collar Work Upsurge In 2011

August 5th, 2010 by Daniel Rosenstein

Many unemployed individuals have had rough times in the past couple of years and work seems to be out of reach as the economy continuously tries to recover from its recent fall. Many countries, however, seem to be recharging rapidly and opportunities for employment are beginning to shoot up in the most unlikely sectors.

The blue collar sector is once again in the limelight when it comes to job opportunities, a classic sign that the world is picking up by changing its views on many issues. One of these views is the sudden upsurge in finding energy efficient, environmentally friendly solutions for highly oil dependent machines and electric generators. Also, the economic downturn has resulted in an upsurge of energy saving ideas for the home and office settings that are now becoming the new beginning for many companies who have adopted this way of thinking.

Number one on the job market are plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters as companies get their gears in shape for harnessing natural energy in the most efficient way possible from geothermal, biofuel, solar heat, and water systems. Qualifications for plumbers require technical school training, four to five years apprenticeship, and a license in several municipalities and states.

Another well paid position in the blue collar category is an elevator repairman or elevator installer as most of the workload is based on maintenance and repair work. This job also requires a license in most states as well as four years of apprentice experience.

With the incoming trend of environmentally friendly structures and energy efficient systems to power these structures, carpentry seems to also be a main skill that will be popular in the upcoming year. Carpenters require no licensing, and some even do not require a company to work with as most are self employed. Although there are available vocational programs, carpenters usually acquire skills over three to four years of skilled apprenticeship – licensing not required.

With the harnessing of solar, wind, water, and biofuels for conversion into electric power, electricians are not far behind on the job market. These jobs are virtually secure for the next decade as the world works to rehabilitate itself and pick up new ideas that work well with the environment without sacrificing electric powered technology.

Car mechanics are also in demand on a regular basis, and have been in demand for some time since the global crisis hit and most people needed to keep their cars well maintained to avoid having to purchase new models. Because there is also a trend in using environmentally friendly gas, it seems that conversion of old models to be able to run on biofuel will keep mechanics well employed over the next few years.

As energy saving is the theme for 2011 and beyond, appliances that follow the trend are becoming more and more prevalent, and the need for maintenance and repair of these new innovations will cause an increase in demand for refrigeration technicians, air conditioning technicians, and heating mechanics. These jobs are expected to be ongoing and rising in demand for the next decade. Apprenticeship and licensing in many states is also required for this type of career.

Another blue collar job that may also be one to remain on the top lists of recession resistant employment is being a roofer. Most roofers have job security due to the work being consistent in the repair and replacement of roofing systems. Now that there is the energy saving “green roof” that is growing in popularity, this will keep many roofers busy for the next decade. Training for this skill is usually gained on the job site itself or through apprenticeship, and does not require licensing.

For any unemployed person who does not mind getting his hands dirty, the timing of this rise in blue collar skilled worker demand is perfect. Although these jobs require learned skills and extensive training, anyone who is ready to try something new will find that these jobs are almost always in demand and almost always indispensable.

Filipino Maids HK – Why Filipino Maids Prefer Western Employers

July 26th, 2010 by Alice Sy

Many Filipino maids looking for job opportunities in Hong Kong would usually inquire from our agency if we have Western employers available. Why do Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong prefer Western employers?

As an employment agency catering to both local and international market, we often receive inquiries from Western employers who are in need of domestic help from time to time as a result of our internet marketing using Google Adwords campaign.

But out of curiosity, I usually interview those Filipino maids why they want to work for Western employers more than the Chinese employers in Hong Kong. They said that the former tend to be more understanding and generous in terms of compensation compared with the latter.

There are four major areas where Western employers show an edge over the Chinese employers in terms of their treatment of Filipina domestic helpers. They are atmosphere of work environment, consideration, socio-psychological distance and personal space. This study has been conducted by Chinese University of Hong Kong on how maids in Hong Kong are treated by their employers.

The data were based on in-depth and structured interviews of Filipino helpers who have served both types of employers. A few Western and Chinese employers were also interviewed.

Based on the study, it has been found that Western employers tend to provide their filipino domestic helpers with easier and comfortable work environment. Western employers were found to be more considerate and are more likely to treat their domestic helpers equally and allow them more personal space, thus giving the helpers more work satisfaction.

Lastly, in terms of variations in treatment of maids, Western employers are more homogeneous and they tend to concentrate on the positive side. On the other hand, Chinese employers are more diversified. There is no single pattern on how they treat their Filipino maids. This is a basis why Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong prefer Western employers.

Before hiring your domestic helper, make sure you visit the top domestic helper agency Hong Kong for free profiles and photos of qualified English speaking applicants and contact us for the fastest way to hire your next Filipina maid, nanny, housekeeper, driver or gardener. What To Look For In A Legal Recruiting Company

July 8th, 2010 by Joy Hanberry

As a new guy to the justice system, lawyers are not all times lucky when searching for any job at a reliable company or firm. Exactly like every other job, they need to pass examinations and have much more qualifications versus the rest. Level of competition is tight so a little help from another party could be really best for their occupation. Yet with the number of legal recruitment businesses, new attorneys may not be able to choose instantly which ones may be of ideal help for them. Here are a few points which a lawyer should take into account when searching for a legal recruiting company.

1. Reputation should be the first thing to look for. Legal recruiting companies are more or less just like any job agency. They look for candidates to refer and recommend to various firms and companies that need lawyers. A legal recruiter with many ties and connections with major companies and that has been around for many years is a good one. It just means they are trusted by the big names in business and law, and are doing their thing right as evidenced by their long existence in the profession.

2. They should have numerous jobs available. Certainly, these are recruitment companies. They must present an abundant supply of work opportunities for aspiring applicants. If they have a good reputation among employing businesses and firms, they must be able to provide a broad selection of potential jobs to candidates. It should also be for different specializations and fields so that candidates can explore possibilities exactly where they may be qualified. It would also imply that they have good experience out of an array of legal specialties.

3. The legal recruiting company should be easy to reach. Going to their office may be a great opportunity for any applicant to talk with the recruiters for first-hand information but convenience should also be taken into consideration. A decent recruitment company must have their own website where applicants can check the company information, jobs available, links with companies and other basic information. A telephone number they can call to inquire about specific questions is also a big plus so that questions are answered readily by the recruiter.

4. Customer satisfaction. As applicants, legal professionals are also customers of recruitment businesses. Any high success rate as well as overall satisfaction of candidates is one thing that a recruitment organization must be able to inform their lawyer-applicants. It is actually recommended to ask anyone you know who used the assistance of the recruiter or search to get a feedback from the internet. The recruiter can be popular either because of their excellent or failed work of getting attorneys to good employing businesses.

There are challenges when looking for any work and being an attorney does not mean going through a several encounter from some other disciplines. With a respectable list of qualifications and background along with competing abilities, just about any attorney at law has a big chance of being offered employment with the assistance of the capable and respected legal recruiting company.
